Purchasing Tips:
What's the best GPS for Dirt bikes & Off-Road?
We specialize in dirt bike and off-road handheld GPS Units. What we offer certainly won’t let you down if used for other sports or outdoor applications, however, our recommendations cater to the off-road & bike mounted junkie.
Brand: After 25+ years of proven off-road Lizard Lady tested reliability and sensibility, there's no way around it; we recommend Garmin GPS. Garmin has made using GPS easy by making their menu systems easier than any other brands. They offer more storage, waypoints, routes, and tracklogs and have lead with new technology features (such as the inReach safety features and more) since the late 90's. Granted, there are a few things that could be better organized, but the menus and configuration (by far) supersede other brands. We only offer GPS by Garmin because the rest just don’t size up.
Cost: Garmin offers each series with & without some bells & whistles, resulting in different price ranges:
- Camera: When you take a picture, the photo is placed on your map, so you can see where the photo took place right on your map.
- inReach: Offers Satellite communication so you can communicate though text/email in the most remote areas. This feature also allows friends & family to see your track progress on a map from their computer or cell phone. An SOS button provides extra protection in case of a major emergency – push it and the rescue mission begins.
- Maps: Garmin offers USA city & topo maps (in select units), however, the map of choice for those riding Baja is the Emap32, which can be purchased HERE and uploaded to your Garmin GPS by way of Basecamp (free software from Garmin). All the routes we provide in Baja can be placed on this detailed map for ultimate navigation to places you wouldn't find without the guidebooks!

Models:
After all our experience with each model, comparing features, and focusing on off-road navigation, we have put all our notes together on the Comparison Chart so you can make the right choice. Most importantly, we highly recommend having the inReach system when riding Baja.
inReach:
This system allows you to text, email, and SOS (for major emergencies). No more carrying bulky sat phones! With this system, your GPS will keep you connected in the most remote areas, all over the world. inReach capable GPS devices require satellite subscription activation to access the Iridium ® satellite network for tracking and messaging functions, including SOS. SOS offers 24/7 global emergency response coordination linking your current GPS coordinate location with emergency responders anywhere in the world. Select 1 of 3 plan options from Garmin to connection your device. All plans are billed monthly and can be suspended while not in use. It is the most efficient safety feature in Baja.
